The Canonical Kernel Team announced on May 27 that Linux kernel 7.2 has been chosen as the target for Ubuntu 26.10 “Stonking Stingray.” Mainline v7.2 is projected to release on August 30, fitting within the cycle’s key milestones: Feature Freeze on August 20, Kernel Freeze on October 1, and Final Release on October 15, 2026. The team called on the community to participate in testing via the Ubuntu Kernel mailing list, Discourse, and Launchpad.
