BesGnuLinux 4.0 was released in May 2026, marking the first major version leap for this independent Turkish developer project. Built on Debian Stable (currently Trixie), BesGnuLinux uses JWM and Openbox as its window managers. Its goal is to deliver a near-full desktop experience even on low-spec hardware (requiring at least 250 MB of RAM and 8 GB of disk space). The OS also includes over 40 custom-built tools, covering visual/audio alerts, shortcut management, AppImage downloads, cross-platform video downloading, local translation (text and speech), power management, screen resolution and brightness adjustments, and a weather forecast widget. The installation process relies on Calamares, and the OS is compatible only with 64-bit systems.
