JiJia Shijian launches Shiguang S1 in Wuhan – China’s first household general-purpose robot

On May 20, GigaVision unveiled the Shiguang S1 in Wuhan’s Optics Valley. Positioned as China’s first general-purpose robot designed for home environments, it can perform various household tasks such as folding clothes, cooking, clearing the dining table, and chatting with elderly family members; it also continuously learns new skills over time. Ye Yun, Vice President of Research and Development at GigaVision, explained that unlike conventional robots that operate based on fixed factory programs, the Shiguang S1 relies on an in-house developed embodied intelligence model to comprehend task objectives and autonomously plan action sequences. Additionally, it features a compliant control mechanism that instantly halts operation upon detecting humans or pets nearby. The company plans to release GigaBrain 1, a large-scale embodied intelligence model, this third quarter; according to GigaVision, this model represents a major breakthrough in data comprehension, task generalization, and motion precision within domestic settings. Currently, the Shiguang S1 is available for trial by selected families in Wuhan as part of a “seed user” program; interested applicants may sign up via the “Shiguang Vision” WeChat official account or dedicated event pages.
