WeChat native AI assistant 'Xiaowei' enters small-scale grayscale testing, with self-developed WeLM as main model and partial calls to DeepSeek

WeChat’s AI assistant “Xiao Wei” has entered a small-scale grayscale test, with some users seeing a small eye-shaped icon in the upper left corner of their WeChat main interface, which serves as the test version entry point. According to Cailianshe reports, Tencent customer service explains that Xiao Wei supports operating WeChat’s native functions through text or voice conversations, including helping friends send messages, checking Moments, booking services, and launching mini-programs. At the model level, Xiao Wei’s primary model is the in-house Chinese LLM “WeLM” (WeChat Language Model) developed by the WeChat team, with some responses calling on DeepSeek, and it integrates Tencent’s self-developed and third-party open-source high-quality models.

Galaxy Computer analyst Wu Yanjing pointed out that from an industry chain perspective, the growth rate scissors gap between AI’s upper, middle, and downstream segments has narrowed significantly: in the first half of 2024, the upstream growth rate was roughly 20 times the midstream and 35 times the downstream, while in Q1 2026, the upstream growth rate (65.47%) was only about 3.5 times the midstream (18.73%) and 3 times the downstream (21.64%), indicating that the upstream high prosperity has been fully priced in and the inflection point of growth has passed. Currently, the best investment range has shifted from the upstream computing power chain to midstream model platforms and downstream application terminals.
