Huang Renxun announces in Seoul that three major memory manufacturers have been certified to supply HBM4, competing to support Vera Rubin

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang told accompanying media at Seoul’s Gimpo Airport on June 5 that the world’s three major memory chipmakers — SK Hynix, Samsung Electronics, and Micron Technology — have all been certified to supply HBM4 high-bandwidth memory for Nvidia’s latest-generation AI accelerator chip, Vera Rubin. The three companies have now entered mass production simultaneously, competing for supply share.

This confirmation that all three have received certification carries significant market implications. In the previous HBM3E generation, Samsung was excluded from Nvidia’s main supplier list due to yield issues, with SK Hynix long dominating the core share. Samsung’s re-entry in the HBM4 generation marks a technical “recertification” on its part, and also gives Nvidia more bargaining leverage on the supply side. Research firm TrendForce previously predicted that due to tight overall DRAM supply, HBM contract prices will rise sharply by several times in 2027. The continued rollout of AI ASICs and the Vera Rubin architecture is seen as the core driver of HBM4 demand growth.
