Gemini now uses compute quota limits; quotas reset every 5 hours starting May 17

Starting May 17, Google will update the usage rules for the Gemini app. Instead of a fixed number of requests, usage limits will now be dynamically determined based on computational volume — each request consumes credits depending on prompt complexity, features used, and conversation length. These limits reset every five hours, with an overall weekly cap as well. Advanced features such as image, video, and music generation, Deep Research, Pro models, and Extended Thinking (Deep Think) consume more credits, making it easier to reach those limits. There are four subscription tiers: Free (standard limits), AI Plus (double the limits), AI Pro (quadruple the limits), and AI Ultra (20 times higher than AI Pro — equivalent to 80 times the standard limits). Google notes this system applies only to users aged 18 and above; usage limits for minors remain unchanged.
