Cloudflare announced on June 4 that it has completed the acquisition of VoidZero, with the amount undisclosed. VoidZero was founded in September 2024 by Evan You, the creator of Vue.js and Vite. Its toolset includes the Vite build tool, which has over 130 million weekly downloads, the Vitest testing framework, the Rust-based bundler Rolldown, and the Oxc toolchain. Evan You and the entire team will join Cloudflare’s Emerging Technologies & Incubation group, continuing to lead development on open source projects. Evan You said that this move will keep the Vite ecosystem neutral and open, while leveraging Cloudflare’s global infrastructure to significantly improve the developer experience for millions of engineers worldwide.
This acquisition is a key step in Cloudflare’s strategy to build an AI-native developer platform. Cloudflare’s Vite plugin already has 13.9 million weekly downloads, accounting for over 10% of total Vite usage, and the two have been deeply integrated. Since its founding, VoidZero has raised approximately $17.1 million, with Accel leading the Series A round. After the deal closes, Cloudflare has committed $1 million to an independent Vite ecosystem fund, specifically to support community maintainers independent of both companies. Vite, Vitest, Rolldown, Oxc, and Vite+ will all remain under the MIT open source license. Future integration plans include aligning the Cloudflare CLI with the Vite workflow and advancing “single-command deployment” infrastructure—letting vite deploy automatically recognize application needs and configure resources such as D1 databases or R2 storage. Notably, Vue.js is not part of this acquisition and will continue to be governed independently by the Vue community.
