According to FOX Business, Meta has filed official documents with Washington State confirming that it will carry out another round of layoffs on July 22. Nearly 1,400 employees across the state will be affected, spanning its major office hubs in Bellevue, Seattle, and Redmond as well as remote positions statewide. Bellevue alone accounts for 699 of those affected. The positions eliminated cover core technical fields such as software development, data research, content design, and information technology. These layoffs form part of Meta’s previously announced plan to cut 10% of its total workforce; meanwhile, the company is also facilitating internal transfers for thousands of employees toward its core AI initiatives.
Meta stated that this organizational restructuring involves multiple measures including layoffs, closure of underutilized roles, and internal staff reallocation, all aimed at phasing out non-core operations while channeling human resources and capital into artificial intelligence. This week, Zuckerberg reiterated at the shareholders’ meeting Meta’s ongoing heavy investment in AI infrastructure and hinted that commercialization of cloud computing is also under consideration. The implementation of these Washington State layoffs coincides with these expansion pledges, underscoring how Meta’s personnel strategy centered on “downsizing non-core units while expanding AI teams” is gaining momentum.
