Tencent released TenPayGo 1.0 on the App Store globally on June 21. It is designed to provide cross-border mobile payment services for overseas tourists visiting China. Currently, it is only available for iPhone and supports English only. Users do not need to exchange cash and can pay directly at merchants across China that accept WeChat Pay. According to IT Home, the app relies on Tencent’s cross-border payment platform TenPay Global and integrates overseas e-wallets through the “Cross-Border QR Code Unified Gateway.” Users with more than 40 overseas wallets, including WeChat HK Wallet, PayPal, Venmo, Vietnam’s MOMO, and Laos’ BCEL, can scan WeChat Pay QR codes to complete transactions. It currently covers 13 countries and regions. The official introduction states that local transportation and lifestyle services will be rolled out gradually in the future.
